On 3 January we'll play in the woods near Historic "Moorefields."
We've been tracing an old road westward from St. Mary's Chapel now for a couple of months. This will be the last in that series. We believe the VA post road that crossed at and near Fanny's Ford on the Eno and may have given rise to St. Mary's Chapel continued west through Occaneechi Gap and crossed Seven Mile Crk northwest of Moorefields. We'll look at the old road near Moorefields.
The html editor has decided we don't need maps, so you must follow directions to find this hike or hammer the address into a mapping program.
As usual, we'll gather at the parking area until 2, walk until 4, and be done and gone by 4:30. Moorefields, a private historic site, is a bit challenging to find. Go south from Hillsborough on Orange Grove Road past I 85 and past I40. Turn right on New Grady Brown School Rd. At the stop sign at Dimmock Mill Rd, turn right again and in a quarter mile turn left on to Moorefields Rd. Follow the signs to the TPA meeting and parking point.
